Coleman Fuel Lantern
Lanterns consume air so you don't ever want to try to use them in an unventilated area. Make sure that where it is placed allows for good air flow around it particularly if you're in an enclosed area.
Some types of the Coleman lanterns will permit you to use unleaded gas but the fuel that the Coleman company has designed for lanterns will give you the best long term results. It's been especially formulated and tested to rigid standards with stabilizer additions for extra storage life. It may also include a rust inhibitor to help forestall any corrosion.
Store your fuel in a correctly marked metal container and check before a trip so you know you will have enough for the outing. Little more annoying than to run out of fuel on your camping outing. Under the stars is kind of dark and the moonlight is typically not enough to see sufficiently well to move around your campsite without extra lantern light.
Keep the fuel cap on when your lantern is in use. A good rough guide is not to loosen the fuel cap if the cover of the lantern is warm to touch. When ready to fill, do that outside so if you spill any of the lantern fuel, it will not be within your cabin, tent, camper or on any of your gear.
Rinse the fuel tank once in a while with fresh fuel to remove any sediment, gum formations or moisture accumulations. If the lantern is utilized for standby or only occasionally rinse and refill with fresh fuel every year at the start of camping season.
Place your Colman lantern so it has at least 2 feet of clearance above it and 1 foot of clearance around it. Have any tent tarp that is moveable like the flap for the door, secured so it will not fall on the lantern and have sleeping bags, clothing or any other flammable items away from where your lantern is burning.
Marjorie J McDonald grew up with the Coleman lantern and understands how much convenience was added by utilizing this lantern. Her family used Coleman lanterns particularly the Coleman Northstar Lantern before the electric lines were run to her fathers ranch in northeast Montana which was not until she was high school. She is definitely a Coleman lantern fan.
